WHAT IS A DRUM CIRCLE?

A drum circle is a gathering of people who come together to create rhythm and harmony solely through the act of drumming. In a drum circle, each participant uses a drum or percussion instrument to contribute to a communal beat that resonates with the unique input of every individual present. Drum circles are often free-form and improvisational, and they do not require participants to have any previous musical experience.
The benefits of participating in a drum circle can be numerous, both socially and personally.
Here are some of the advantages:
  • Reduce stress: The act of drumming can be incredibly cathartic, releasing tension and stress as participants get lost in the rhythm.
  • Reduce anxiety levels: Regular drumming has been shown to lessen anxiety, as the rhythmic patterns can be soothing and meditative.
  • Lower blood pressure: The physical activity of drumming, combined with the stress-reducing effects, can help to reduce blood pressure.
  • Lower depression levels: Drumming can produce endorphins, the body's natural "feel-good" chemicals, which can help to elevate mood.
  • Raise self-esteem & confidence: Mastering rhythms and contributing to a group can improve self-esteem and confidence.
  • Give people a sense of community and belonging: Drum circles often create a sense of unity and connection amongst participants, fostering social bonds.
  • AND they are a lot of fun!
