A lifetime ago (2018!!), I enrolled in Hatha Yoga Teacher Training. I was drawn to the course for a number of reasons, the main one was to get some perspective on Kundalini Yoga. As a Certified Instructor in Kundalini I had only taken a small number of “outside” classes. It took awhile for me to acclimate and slowly I began to see the immense benefit of learning a different take on the same goal. Of course, there are many paths to Union.
All rivers lead to the ocean.
Often I am asked about these differences in approach, and it’s not the way I like to explain it.
“Difference” is dualistic, and our minds have been trained to make an argument regarding why one thing is “better” than another when we explain the list of difference. An effective practice adds to what you know, gives it depth and feeling, color. You recognize new facets. Creativity
flows from it.
Kundalini is the Yoga of Awareness and certainly brings all of that and more. It does so by taking postures and adding movement, vibration and sound. It takes you where you are, asks you to close your eyes, and creates a connection of breath and movement. It asks you to make a funny face, look at the tip of your nose, flap your arms like a chicken, breath like you’ve never done, you might see the rainbow of color in your chakras, vibrate your brain with ONG, visualize light flowing through you to infinity.
It asks you to not take yourself so seriously, laugh, listen to your voice, bow to the divine teacher within you, look into the eyes of another and see yourself in them, experience the endless effortless flow of energy from the source of creation. It asks you to deeply explore all eight limbs of Yoga in every class. It asks you to experience you as you. That’s all!!
“Experience and Believe”
Oh! And the kundalini? It’s there, inside you. Waiting. Become aware of the blocks as you
clear them with vibration, with connection, with breath, with movement, with the energy. The
sets taught in class safely and systematically raise Kundalini and connect to Adi Shakti-Primal Power so you can experience what it’s all about. Words to describe who you are as a person don’t come close. It’s the same with the Primal Power of the Universe. Experience it, and believe the Experience that you had. That’s it!
So come to Kundalini Yoga class, and see for yourself.
