In yoga, fear is reflected by one of five (emotional) causes-of-affliction known as kleshas, along with hatred, attachment, the I-sense (or ego), and ignorance. An affliction is a condition in which we can’t find peace in the midst of turmoil. In yoga, these conditions are change, anxiety, habituation (habitual thought and behavior) and conflict – conflict between our thoughts (mental activities) and our inherent nature. These emotions are said to be the source of our troubles and can be the greatest cause of human unhappiness.
In this series we will explore knowledge of the obstacles to freedom. Jnana yoga is the practice of embracing knowledge and creating a felt sense of it. A methodological process will be utilized. Once achieved, our perspective changes and obstacles are removed. Removing the labels and the source within that tells you we are a separate this or that, is an essential foundation to the yogic practice.
